Google pulled the outsourced business from a Filipino call center whose employees participated in the Bitcoin scam.

According to Newsbytes.PH, Google has confirmed that the company has transferred some of the companies that were outsourced at a Sykes Philippines office in Cebu to another provider in the country.

In the Philippines, social media posts alleged that some employees at outsourcing companies stole around 60 million Philippine pesos ($ 1.23 million) from Google gift cards and converted them into bitcoins. Sykes confirmed to the media that employees were violating their standards of conduct, but did not mention what those violations were.

Cryptocurrency fraud has increased lately. The UK’s National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) has taken action against fake celebrity endorsements for Bitcoin online. Cointelegraph previously reported that call center scammers are starting to introduce fraudulent Bitcoin investment plans.

The Philippines have been pretty friendly towards cryptocurrencies. The country’s central bank recently announced that it is considering issuing central bank digital currency (CBDC).
