French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who once said that the Libra symbol on Facebook could threaten “nations’ monetary sovereignty”, continues to criticize cryptocurrencies.

In a tweet on October 19, Le Maire stated that some cryptocurrencies are linked to the purchase of drugs and weapons, and are also used for money laundering. However, he also wrote that he has not “questioned the reliability and traceability of the entire blockchain technology.”

Le Maire responded to Cyril Paglino, general partner of the crypto fund Starchain Capital, who said that blockchain transactions “do not interest terrorists.” Paglino pointed to a recent FinCEN leak which showed that many banks have really facilitated money laundering.
