The US e-commerce giant Amazon is developing a new service that allows customers to shop with digital currency, according to the company’s job postings.

The company is currently building a technical team to roll out a new digital currency service, according to an official Amazon job application. Currently, this service, known as the Digital and New Payments Project or DEP, will be rolling out mainly in Mexico, so that locals can purchase cryptocurrencies to use the digital currency while shopping. A free ad reads:

“We are looking for a leader who can help us launch a new payment product, based in Mexico as the country we launched for the first time. This product will allow customers to convert cash into digital currency, through which customers can enjoy online services, including the purchase of goods. And / or services such as Prime Video.
According to the statement, Cryptocurrency-focused software development executives at Amazon should have a Bachelor of Science degree or other equivalent degree with more than three years of experience managing distributed software delivery.

According to LinkedIn, the job post was posted on February 4. Ahead of the app’s release, Amazon announced that founder and CEO Jeff Bezos was planning to step down as CEO.

Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Cointelegraph.
